The Book Thief (Book Review)

The Book Thief by Markus Suzak
(may contain spoilers)

Summary:
The Book Thief is about Liesel, the 9 years old girl who moves to Nazi Germany in 1939 to live with a foster family. During the trip to Germany, her little brother dies and that when Death (The Narrator) sees her for the first time. When they were burying Liesel's brother, she managed to steal a book from the gravedigger. Liesel couldn't read or write, she stole it out of curiosity. When she settled down, with the help of her new father (Hans) she learned how to read and write and managed to make friends with the boy next door named Rudy, they both went to school together and went on different adventures many include food theft with Rudy and book theft by herself from the Mayor’s house.
During World War 1, a Jewish man sacrificed himself to ensure Hans' survival. And now after Hitler's declared massacres on the Jews, Hans insisted on helping that Jewish man's family to survive. So he asked for them to come and live in his house as a safe place. Max, the Jewish man' son was the only one who made it to Hans' house. Hans, his wife and Liesel welcomed him with food and blankets and made sure that he stays well hidden in the basement and each one swore not to tell a soul about Max or else they will be all facing death.
Liesel liked how Max tells stories and he encouraged her to start writing her own book, their friendship grew more and more as they both share the same interests.
One day, the Nazi Party men were expelling the Jews out of their shops and destroying what’s inside of them in front of Liesel and Hans Eyes. Without realizing, Hans stepped forward and defended a Jewish man that was getting beaten up by the Nazi Party, the soldier just stared at him and asked Hans for his full name and address. Hans wasn't afraid of him being killed by the Nazi Party, he was afraid that they will come to his house and find Max and kill him before his eyes. So, when Hans and Liesel returned home, they asked Max to look for another safe place with tears filling their eyes.
The story continuous and many events happen and years pass by till Liesel finally reunite with Max.

My review:
I loved the Idea of this book, it wasn't narrated by the author nor by the main character, it was narrated by Death. Death found Liesel interesting and he kept an eye on her since she was 9 and didn't take her till she grew old, full of memories and adventures.
Maybe I liked Liesel so much because I see her in me, we both love to read and we are both curious to most things, I just love when authors make the characters relatable.
The book shows an important part of the world's history that we must all know and learn about it in schools which is The World Wars. Millions and millions of people died and other millions suffered from the effects of it. We must learn from it so we do not repeat the history and let the whole world suffer all over again. So, this book is highly recommended to those who are into the history of the world.
This book is not for fast readers, it’s for those people who love to take reading books very slowly to enjoy every part of it, because as soon as you finish it, your heart will be broken anyways.
I loved how the author made Death not devastating but humorous as he says "I'm haunted by humans.", I loved how the author made this book so interesting that I couldn't put it down for a second and above all, I loved how the author wrote about the war as if he invented a time travel machine and went back in time to the war and came back and gave us this mind blowing book.
Overall, yes, this book will break your heart but it is definitely worth it.

Why is The Catcher In The Rye is my favourite book.

If you haven't read it yet, this book is about - don't worry I will try not include spoilers- a kid who gets expelled from his boarding school and tries to make his way back home. No, literally this is the whole story. But it is more than a brat walking around and nagging about absolutely everything, it carries a deep meaning that you won't get until you finish the book. Holden Caulfield's (the main character) attitude tells a lot of his state of mind. He has a continuous careless views throughout the book, he's not in a good mood, he's not in a bad mood, he's neutral! When you tell a tale this long with little to no sign of emotion, it indicates depression. And trust me, I not only have read several books with mental illness background, but I also suffered from depression at a time in the past, I know how character is feeling!  Holden doesn't get along with the kids at school, he has bad habits like smoking, drinking, chasing women etc and ...

I am back?

Wow,  It has been a hot minute since I updated this blog, I was not sure if I should reblog again or If I should just journal in a word document and save it somewhere on my computer where no one would read it. But. I do not care if anyone came upon it, it's not like I am incriminating myself for a crime that I did or did not do. It is just a bunch of nonsense, To you. But, to me, It is how I survive.  A lot have happened since I last blogged. I got my Bachelor's degree in basic science, I traveled the world, I worked in a hospital in London, I graduated med school and I became a doctor, I have been to Coldplay, Blue and Florence and The Machine concerts. I have met wonderful people that I now call friends. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed my time, I was depressed, I was anxious, I was loved, I was alone. I have lost friends and family, I read new books and watched old movies. Many things have happened since 2016, and things are still keeping on happening. For instance, I am...
