Divergent (Book review)

My english project for this semester is to review 3 different books each months, so here's the first one:

Divergent by Veronica Roth
(may contain spoilers)

Summary:Divergent takes place in Chicago in the future, the days after the war that made the whole population divide into five different factions: Erudite; where people are smart, book lovers and scientists, they simply salute knowledge. Dauntless; where people are fearless, brave and extreme all the time, they are the army of the nation and the source of all weapons. Amity; where people are peaceful and happy all the time, they work in farms and they are the source of all the neutrinos. Candor; where people are completely honest, they never lie. And finally Abnegation; where people are selfless and helpful, they are the ones who feed and take care of the Factionless, the people who don't belong in any of the factions above. And because they are selfless, they got to run the government. Beatrice Prior was born in an abnegation family, she felt that she doesn't belong to this faction ever since she was little but she didn't see herself in any other faction either, which made her question her identity her whole life. When teenagers turn 16, they have to take an exam to determine which faction they belong to and they get to choose whatever faction they want despite their exam result. Beatrice waited all her life for this moment, now she will know where she truly belongs, that what she thought. Her exam results were conclusive, she was a Divergent, a dangerous type of people that the government were after to kill. After taking the advice of the exam's instructor, Beatrice promised to not tell anyone about her results, because she would be in danger. Beatrice chose to leaver her old faction and join Dauntless, the brave extreme ones, where she learned how to fight and shoot but she didn't know that she walked into a death trap; Dauntless were the ones who were after the Divergent.

My review:Divergent was different from all the fiction books I have read before, it had its own identity of story telling, which is a huge thing to achieve for a 23 years old author. I liked Divergent because it speaks to the teenagers of this generation; how hard it is to find who you are, how hard it is to fight anxiety and facing your fears and how hard it is to let go of some people and move on with your life. And of course what is a young adult novel without a little bit of romance? The story of Tris and Four (One of leaders of Dauntless who turned out to be a Divergent) is so adorable, how he helped her develop her fighting skills and encouraged her to face her fears and face other Dauntless people who were teasing her for being so stiff and weak. They both stood next to each other and fought the brain-washed dauntless army in order to save all the innocent people from being brutally murdered by the Erudite and Dauntless leaders who wanted to take over the government. The thing that I loved the most about this books is that it has many cliff hangers that makes you want to read the other sequels as soon as possible to find out what is really going on and what is Divergent and why every faction leader wants to kill them. Basically, the novel is so breath taking and emotional, you wouldn't dare putting it down for a second. Its one of rare books that once you finish reading it, you start questioning your whole life and what are you going to do with it once you put it back on the shelf.

Why is The Catcher In The Rye is my favourite book.

If you haven't read it yet, this book is about - don't worry I will try not include spoilers- a kid who gets expelled from his boarding school and tries to make his way back home. No, literally this is the whole story. But it is more than a brat walking around and nagging about absolutely everything, it carries a deep meaning that you won't get until you finish the book. Holden Caulfield's (the main character) attitude tells a lot of his state of mind. He has a continuous careless views throughout the book, he's not in a good mood, he's not in a bad mood, he's neutral! When you tell a tale this long with little to no sign of emotion, it indicates depression. And trust me, I not only have read several books with mental illness background, but I also suffered from depression at a time in the past, I know how character is feeling!  Holden doesn't get along with the kids at school, he has bad habits like smoking, drinking, chasing women etc and ...

I am back?

Wow,  It has been a hot minute since I updated this blog, I was not sure if I should reblog again or If I should just journal in a word document and save it somewhere on my computer where no one would read it. But. I do not care if anyone came upon it, it's not like I am incriminating myself for a crime that I did or did not do. It is just a bunch of nonsense, To you. But, to me, It is how I survive.  A lot have happened since I last blogged. I got my Bachelor's degree in basic science, I traveled the world, I worked in a hospital in London, I graduated med school and I became a doctor, I have been to Coldplay, Blue and Florence and The Machine concerts. I have met wonderful people that I now call friends. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed my time, I was depressed, I was anxious, I was loved, I was alone. I have lost friends and family, I read new books and watched old movies. Many things have happened since 2016, and things are still keeping on happening. For instance, I am...
