This book kept breaking my heart with every page. i hate it when authors do that but i quote from the book "Sad stories make good books." The Kite Runner is a sad story but its a not a good book, Its great, splendid, terrific and all kind of more than good synonyms.
Khaled Hossaini books makes you feel like you're one of the characters, like you've been to the places he had mention and you've been in the events he described in the book. and thats what i like about his books, only few authors can make you feel that way.
I have read A Thousand Splendid Suns earlier this year and until this moment i'm suffering from a shattered soul and God knows what will happen to me after months of reading The Kite Runner.
I added Hassan in my list of favourite characters, i've never came across a character or even a real person like him before. His loyalty to Amir is unbelievable, he loved him so much even after what Amir did to him and he kept telling stories about his adventures with Amir when they were kids to his son. Amir on the other hand, drove me crazy with his actions, if he was a real person i'd run him over with a car repeatedly and i won't feel guilty about it. but that all changed in the last few chapters of the book. Amir would sacrifice anything to make up what he did years ago and that made me think that not all bad people stay bad forever < kind of a quote from a book.
What saddened me about the book is not about Amir and Hassan's story, what saddened me and made me furious is the way Afghanistan used to be before the invasion of Russia and before Taliban took over. Before, peace was everywhere, kids would go out and play and women would go around wandering without them getting any harm. but the Russians came and start killing innocent people randomly, they would walk around and harass this or rape that and i'm not gonna say that after Taliban came everything went back to normal because it didn't, it got worse.. the Mujahdeen would kill anyone who would step on their way by the name of Allah!!!! they'd beat a woman to death because she wasn't wearing her "Burqa" properly or kill her because she was walking alone without her husband.. and more of examples that sickened me to death.
Anyway, The Kite Runner is a great book, read it, it will break you and you will suffer for the rest of your life. but, you will going to enjoy it!
